چکیده

Exact results are reported for the low-temperature thermodynamics of a spin-1 2 magnetic impurity coupled to a 1D interacting electron system. The use of conformal eld theory techniques reveals that there are only two types of critical behaviors consistent with the symmetries of the problem: either a local Fermi liquid, or else a theory identical to that recently proposed by Furusaki and Nagaosa. We also show that forward electron scattering on the impurity produces the same critical behavior as the two-channel Kondo eeect for noninteracting electrons. The study of correlated electrons continues to be the focus of intense activity. A key issue, spurred by experimental studies of very narrow conduction channels, is the role of impurities in these systems. The one-dimensional case is particularly fascinating: As shown recently, even a single potential scatterer may drastically change the physics in the presence of electron-electron interactions (Luttinger liquid). 1 We here consider the case of a magnetic impurity coupled to a one-dimensional system of interacting electrons. 2 The electrons are modeled by a Tomonaga-Luttinger Hamiltonian with repulsive interaction (g > 0)

Measuring Luttinger liquid correlations from charge fluctuations in a nanoscale structure.

We suggest an experiment to study Luttinger liquid behavior in a one-dimensional nanostructure, avoiding the usual complications associated with transport measurements. The proposed setup consists of a quantum box, biased by a gate voltage, and side coupled to a quantum wire by a point contact. Close to the degeneracy points of the Coulomb blockaded box, and in the presence of a magnetic field ...

Renormalization-group study of a magnetic impurity in a Luttinger liquid

– A generalized Anderson model for a magnetic impurity in an interacting onedimensional electron gas is studied via a mapping onto a classical Coulomb gas. For weak potential scattering, the local-moment parameter regime expands as repulsive bulk interactions become stronger, but the Kondo scale for the quenching of the impurity moment varies nonmonotonically. There also exist two regimes domin...

Universal Behavior of Quantum Impurity Scattering in Tomonaga-Luttinger Liquid

Using bosonization and path integral methods, we study general low temperature behavior of non-magnetic and magnetic impurity scattering in Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid, and calculate electron Green function for a general backward scattering potential. We demonstrate that electron density of state near the impurity site is suppressed by the backward scattering, but it mainly remains invariant as f...

Occupation of a resonant level coupled to a chiral Luttinger liquid.

We consider a resonant level coupled to a chiral Luttinger liquid which can be realized, e.g., at a fractional quantum Hall edge. We study the dependence of the occupation probability n of the level on its energy epsilon for various values of the Luttinger-liquid parameter g. At g<1/2, a weakly coupled level shows a sharp jump in n(epsilon) at the Fermi level. As the coupling is increased, the ...

An Exactly Solvable Kondo Problem for Interacting One-Dimensional Fermions.

The single impurity Kondo problem in the one-dimensional (1D) δ-potential Fermi gas is exactly solved for two sets of special coupling constants via Bethe ansatz. It is found that ferromagnetic Kondo screening does occur in one case which confirms the Furusaki-Nagaosa conjecture while in the other case it does not, which we explain in a simple physical picture. The surface energy, the low tempe...
